Sylvan Learning Center, the nation's leading provider of educational services, seeks part-time teachers. At Sylvan Learning Center, we teach students (Kindergarten through High School) at various levels to increase confidence and independence, providing them with skills that will last a lifetime. We are currently looking for experienced tutors with a solid writing background to work at our Torrance learning center. Other available subjects include math, elementary reading, early reading and SAT prep. As an Instructor at Sylvan, your primary responsibilities are: Just Teaching. No Lesson Plans. No Preparation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Supervise, interact with, and motivate students Reward students for completed assignments Evaluate and document student progress Communicate student needs to the center director and/or Director of Education Inspire and develop a rapport with students Establish a fun learning environment Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Four year degree or equivalent preferred but not required. Some college required. State or provincial teaching credentials preferred (current or expired) Minimum of one or two years of teaching or tutoring experience preferred. Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers Ability to teach all levels of HS math required for Math only tutors Compensation: $19-$21/hour
