Position Overview
The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing precise and competitive cost estimates for electrical work on commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. This position involves reviewing construction documents, calculating material and labor requirements, obtaining vendor pricing, and developing comprehensive proposals. The estimator plays a key role in supporting the preconstruction team by ensuring bids are completed on time and align with company profitability goals, project scope, and execution capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Review electrical plans, specifications, and scope documents to determine project requirements for materials and labor
  • Develop complete and accurate cost estimates for industrial and commercial electrical projects
  • Perform detailed takeoffs and pricing utilizing McCormick or comparable estimating software
  • Request, evaluate, and integrate pricing from vendors and subcontractors
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and operations staff to confirm scope and project approach
  • Participate in internal bid reviews to ensure estimates comply with margin expectations and risk guidelines
  • Maintain and update historical cost data to enhance future estimating accuracy
  • Keep current databases of labor units, material costs, and vendor quotes
  • Provide input on value engineering options and alternative design solutions during preconstruction
  • Ensure proposals and bid packages are submitted accurately and on schedule
  • Inspect incoming materials for accuracy and potential defects

Required Skills & Competencies


  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical estimating within commercial or industrial construction
  • Proficiency with estimating tools (e.g., McCormick, Accubid) and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong understanding of NEC, electrical systems, and construction processes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documentation
  • Strong mathematical, organizational, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under deadlines and perform well in high-pressure environments

Preferred Qualifications


  • Electrical Journeyman or Master Electrician License
  • Background in design-build and conceptual estimating
  • Experience using project management software such as Procore or PlanGrid
